Bamboo shades look great in summer — natural, airy, and cool. But they’re made of natural materials with small gaps that trap dust. In humid rooms, they can also grow mold. Here’s exactly how to clean them and what to never do.
1. Regular Dusting: Once a month is plenty
Use a dry microfiber cloth or a feather duster — wipe gently. Don’t slap or press hard.
Vacuum option: Attach a soft brush head, set suction to low, and sweep from top to bottom.
> If you hate dusting, choose tighter-weave bamboo shades, like our Wisper or Canopy series, they trap far less dust.
2. Deep Cleaning: NEVER wash with water
No soaking, no rinsing with water. Even treated bamboo can warp or crack.
For stains (coffee, oil, juice, etc.):
1. Blot immediately with a paper towel — don’t rub.
2. Use a soft toothbrush with mild detergent or toothpaste to gently scrub the spot.
3. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth to remove residue.
4. Air dry in shade — never in direct sunlight. Sun causes fading, warping, and splitting.
> For oily stains: Sprinkle cornstarch or baby powder, wait 10 minutes, brush off, then follow the steps above.
3. Mold & Pests: Especially in bathrooms and humid climates

If you see small mold spots:
Mix 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water. Dab with a soft cloth, wipe gently, then dry completely in a well-ventilated area away from sun. For large mold growth, replace the shade.
Pest prevention:
Bamboo shades can attract booklice or powderpost beetles in damp conditions. Place silica gel packets or natural pest sachets (lavender, cedar, camphor) near the window — not directly touching the shade. Keep room humidity below 60%.
4. Quick Checklist
✅ Dust monthly – soft brush or low-power vacuum
✅ Spot clean – blot first, then mild detergent + soft brush, air dry in shade
✅ Mold – vinegar/water solution for small spots
✅ Pests – keep dry, use natural repellents
❌ Never soak or wash with water
❌ Never put in direct sun to dry
❌ Never scrub with hard brushes or pull roughly
> Our bamboo shades come with pre-treatment for stain, mold, and moisture resistance, so they last longer in humid rooms. Look for these features when you buy.
